APPRAISALS

At Lewis Jewelers, we come by titles the old-fashioned way. We earn them. Our family owned and operated business includes four master goldsmiths and four Graduate Gemologists of Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Also, one Certified Gemologist and one Certified Gemologist Appraiser graduates of American Gem Society. Only 5% of jewelers, designers, and appraisers have met the requirement for membership in the American Gem Society. Lewis Jewelers is proud to be one such firm!

The American Gem SocietyTM awards titles to designating members as skilled professionals upon completion of stringent gemological studies and examinations. For you, this means the American Gem Society provides professional, knowledgeable, and trustworthy specialists who continually are improving their knowledge of the industry.

Exactly the kind of professionals you’ll find at Lewis Jewelers.

The Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA) title is awarded to the individual member whose sole business is appraising, The CGA does not engage in purchasing or selling gems or jewelry. In addition to the requirements for the CGA, the appraiser has completed an extensive course responsible for submitting proof of continuing education every five years.

An Accredited Gem Laboratory is a special designation awarded only to qualifying American Gem SocietyTM member firms that have proven their dedication to professional gemologist identification in accordance with the Membership Standards of the American Gem Society. The store must purchase and maintain gemological equipment and reference materials and dedicate space for the proper use and display of that equipment. In addition, the store must employ an Independent Certified Gemologist Appraiser, Certified Gemologist Appraiser or Certified Gemologist to directly supervise the gem laboratory.

Types of Appraisal we can provide; Insurance Appraisal / Retail Replacement Value Appraisals This report is most commonly referred to as an insurance appraisal.

This type of report is necessary for insuring your items against loss or damage. The accuracy and detail included in this report make it possible to identify or have exact duplicates recreated of these precious items should they ever be lost or stolen.

Liquidation / (Re-sale Advice) Appraisals This appraisal value is determined when an owner decides to convert jewelry items into immediate cash by re-selling them. The sale can be held under forced or limiting conditions and with time constraints, depending on the circumstances and or how the items are sold. Estate (Probate) Appraisals This report is for estate evaluation purposes and is necessary to determine inheritance taxes on an estate. Jewelry values for estates are legislated to include specific information and data.

Fair market value is used for this type of valuation and it is always necessary to include comparable sales. Divorce Settlement / Dissolution of Marriage This is a fair market value report for an equal division of common property.
