Spotlight on Seiko: Behind the Japanese Timepiece Legacy
May 1st, 2020
Started in 1881, the legendary brand was originally only a purveyor and repairer of watches and clocks. But Kintaro Hattori soon founded Seikosha Factory—Japanese for ?exquisite house?—and started making watches and clocks himself.
The name we now know, Seiko, is a house built on technological progression, elegance, and simplicity of design. Known for some pretty significant firsts, Seiko produced Japan?s very first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913; in 1965, the brand debuted the first Japanese driver?s watch, and the very first quartz watch just four years later.
Driven by technological originality in movements and design, Seiko is also characterized by elegance and simplicity. Modern watches are loaded with very cool features, but Seiko?s current set of collections are the epitome of the innovation that?s propelled the brand since its inception, and they?re all underscored by clean, sleek aesthetics and superb functionality.
Seiko Watch Collections for Land, Sea, and Air
The Seiko Prospex collection challenges nearly every limit for sports lovers and adventure seekers. This year marks the 55th anniversary of Seiko?s first ever diver?s watch, and the current iteration of the Prospex collection offers best in class for reliability, safety, and style. The Prospex is a sure-handed companion when adventuring on land, in water, or even in the sky.
Generally considered the dress watch equivalent to the Prospex, the Presage line puts Japanese aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship at the forefront. This handsome collection is grounded in Japanese beauty, quality, and long-lasting performance. Offering both men?s and women?s styles, the Presage collection boasts styles that range from modern and edgy to classic and retro.
When the Seiko Astron debuted in 2012, it meant the launch of the world?s first GPS solar watch. The Astron quickly launched a new global standard for premium watch brands, boasting one hundred percent solar powered function, GPS connection, and loads of covetable features. Adjusting at the touch of a button to new time zones, and with a sleek, polished design, the Astron is a solid choice for jetsetters and urban adventurers.
